Business Continuity

Contingency planning is the obligation of every site that provides reprocessing services for one or multiple hospital locations . Formal contingency planning arrangements are hard to organise and almost impossible to test. The impact on theatres and the delays to operations would be significant and without an adequate plan it may take weeks before normal processing can be resumed. MS1 is in a unique position to help solve this problem.

Unique Idenfication
Connecting for Health has helped solve the first problem - every NHS site is now entitled to a unique GS1 site identification number. MS1 and your existing tracking and traceability provider (for both manual and computerised systems) are able to work with this number and create
unique codes for  all of your inventory items.   Your GS1 coded inventory can then be uploaded onto the MS1 data repository.

MS1 data repository
Sitting at the heart of our solution is the MS1 data repository, an on-line environment where inventories of surgical trays and medical devices can be electronically stored, amended, and
transferred. This copy of your inventory provides fast and efficient access to registered MS1 reprocessing partner locations.

Transfer

Partner organisations can arrange for partial or complete inventories to be processed by other sites almost instantly.   All that would be needed would be partner details and the assistance of the MS1 Bureau service to authorise the transfer.

In summary the combination of GS1 codes used with MS1 tools and services enables you to implement an efficient and cost effective disaster recovery strategy that works.
