Loan Set Traceability
Comprehensive tracing of loan set equipment is a directive of the Medical Devices Agency (MDA) and consequently every
healthcare organisation using loaned equipment must have access to current and historic information. Learn More
Bureau Service
MS1 provides a bureau service to assist with the management of GS1 coding in the health service. This service removes the administrative burden of managing GS1 numbers across the organisation.
Using GS1 coding in combination with the bureau service has the practical benefits of enabling hospital sites to lend surgical trays and medical devices, and to quickly and easily set up disaster recovery partnerships. Learn More
Training & Consultancy
MS1 works closely with GS1, and as an approved GS1 solutions provider offers a range of training services. These include
how the GS1 codes should be applied to the management of assets, training on how to use the MS1 asset utilities, and training
for solution providers on how to build GS1 coding into their own software. Learn More

GS1 Coding in use – Medical Device Management and cross-site lending with MS1
The GS1 coding system is already providing great benefits in patient safety by eliminating identification mistakes. This same advantage is also being used to improve the way medical devices and Theatre Traysets are tracked. By having unique identification devices can be easily traced anywhere in the health service.
There are three primary GS1 application identifiers that have been suggested for use in tracking surgical devices in healthcare: the Global Location Number (GLN), Global Individual Asset Identifier (GIAI) and the Serialised Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). These identifiers allow medical devices and surgical sets to be recorded throughout the healthcare system and for accurate audit information to be generated at each stage in the exchange and usage of sets.
These processes will improve decontamination standards by providing accurate tray list and supporting documentation, maintain an accurate audit record by recording the reprocessing cycles at different sites, and most importantly, MS1 guarantees that your medical devices can be exchanged between organizations safe in the knowledge that patient care will not be compromised.
